WILD WEST PARTY THEME

A great theme for a kids' birthday party is the Wild West party.  This ageless idea isn't ever going to go out of fashion, so is great for parents who have multiple kids.  So long as each kid has a Wild West party, you get extra mileage out of any decorations or costumes you may end up purchasing.

Decoration & Music

Decorate your house like an old western saloon!  Put in card tables, swinging double-hinged saloon doors, and throw some sawdust and tumbleweeds on the floor.  You can dress your kids as cowboys, sherrifs, and rustlers, and let everyone mingle at the old watering hole.  Some player piano music will complete the scene, bringing you all back to the Wild West.

Meal

Real cowboys in the old west had pretty boring meals--salted pork and dried beans making up most of their dinners.  You can stray from tradition a bit, and put together a more balanced meal--with a well-decorated cake for dessert.  Just remember, cowpokes have big appetites, so make sure there's plenty for all those hungry mouths.

Activities

A showdown at high noon may be the iconic cowboy activity, but you can only have so many of these before they get boring--and many parents don't like it when kids play with guns.  Instead, you can find games like "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" and give them a cowboy twist--into "Pin the Tail on the Bucking Bronco."  It's easy to add a western twist to about anything, and still keep your party much more tame than those rough-and-tumble cowboys really were.
